Nutrition Assessment and Meal Planning
At Healthy Habits Institute you get a very detailed nutrition assessment that is designed specifically for you. The assessment is based on a one-week food and beverage intake record and a one-week daily activity record. By incorporating calorie intake and energy expenditure, I can design meal plans that will help you reach your goals much faster than with some generic plan that "works for everyone". The assessment provides a complete picture of where we need to make changes to improve your health. You get in-depth analysis of vitamin and minerals, cholesterol, sodium, fiber, et cetera, as well as carbohydrates, fats, and protein. I use all of this information to provide you with the most personalized and detailed meal plans that are unique to your needs and goals.
Follow-up and continuous monitoring are what really make this program work. You will meet with me a minimum of once a month to evaluate your progress and address any issues that you may have. I will do monthly nutrition assessments and make any necessary changes to the meal plan. Our bodies are very smart and they adapt to changes in our environment including changes in our food intake and activity level. This is why the first few weeks on a new diet you may lose weight, but then you hit a plateau. By changing the meal plans regularly, you won't experience these plateaus. Another benefit of the frequent evaluations is accountablility. You are more likely to follow the meal plans if you know you'll be meeting me once a month and this helps develop healthy habits for life.
MommyFit and KidFit Nutrition and Exercise Programs
Pregnancy can influence your health for the rest of you life. Sound nutrition and a daily exercise program throughout your pregancy can improve not only your health but also the health of your child. Did you know that what you eat during pregnancy not only affects your child's health but also his or her intelligence? Healthy Habits Institute will work with your doctor to provide you and your child with the best possible pre- and post-natal nutrition and exercise program specific to your needs.
Start your child on a healthy lifestyle before he or she is born. Everything from ADHD, ADD, allergies, asthma, autism, and behavior are linked to nutrition. By eating healthy foods during pregnancy and continuing your child on healthy foods from birth, you will be providing the best possible situation for your child. The earlier you start your child on nutritious habits, the easier it will be to keep them following a healthy lifestyle. Call Healthy Habits Institute and become a MommyFit mom.
KidFit is an after-school and summer nutrition and exercise program for kids of all ages. I am passionate about fighting childhood obesity and improving the health of today's youth. I make exercise fun and encourage good eating habits. I believe most children don't get outside enough so we ususally exercise outdoors. I empower the kids with knowledge about why we do certain exercises (balance, coordination, strength, endurance) and I exercise right alongside them. I am not a "drill sargent" trainer, but instead I am an active participant. My goal is to make exercise fun so they will adopt a healthy lifestyle at a young age.
If your child is overweight and needs to change his or her eating behavior, then I request that the entire family get involved in the nutrition program. You cannot expect your child to eat healthy foods if he or she is exposed to unhealthy foods at home. I encourage the entire family to develop sound nutrition and daily exercise routines.
M.A.D. Walking Club
Motivated. Accountable. Dedicated. M.A.D. walking club is Healthy Habits Institute's answer to your excuses for not walking. When you join the walking club you will be asked things like a) the time of day available to walk, b) walking preferences (indoors/outdoors, fast pace/slow pace, short walks/long walks), and c) contact information. I help people get in contact with other walkers according to these preferences. People tend to be much more accountable to a walking club member. It's too easy to talk your spouse, child or friend out of walking, but letting down a group member is more difficult. I join the various walking groups on a regular basis to give encouragement and answer questions about nutrition, exercise, and health-related issues. Several times a year M.A.D. members will be invited to go to state parks, rails-to-trails, and organized walking events. Have fun, meet new friends, and improve your health with M.A.D. walking club.
You can sign-up for the club by contacting me at MADwalkingclub@gmail.com. Just leave me your name and a way to contact you, then I'll forward the membership application to you.
