Exercise Programs

My philosophy on exercise is that any kind of movement is going to benefit your health.  So many people live sedentary lives in which they sit in front of computers or televisions all day, every day and the only time they move is to get from point A to point B, yet they continue to eat as if they do physical labor.  This causes a positive energy balance which leads to weight gain, not to mention the negative impact that no exercise has on your cardiovascular health.  So get up and get moving!

My approach to exercise is simple.  Walking, yoga, pilates, calisthenics, jumping rope---these are things that you can do just about anywhere.  Balance, coordination, and flexibility are often overlooked aspects of fitness programs, however these are some of the most important parts of your overall health and fitness for injury prevention and long-term benefits for your body.  Personally, I have lifted weights daily for over 22 years, however, weight lifting may not be your cup of tea.  That's okay.  As I said, you can get incredible results by never stepping foot in a gym or picking up a dumbbell.

A routine walking program and a day or two a week of balance, coordination, and flexibilty training will result in improved health and fitness for people of all ages.  Children benefit from this type of exercise because their bodies are developing and by building a good foundation through this type of exercise program, they will not see the same overuse injuries seen in many elite athletes or inactivity injuries seen in sedentary people.  Older adults benefit from this type of exercise because it's been shown in recent research that balance exercises do prevent a lot of age-related falls and injuries.  The middle age population benefits from this type of exercise because it builds the foundation that probably was not built in their youth.  As you can see, regardless of what age group you fall into, you can benefit from balance, coordination, and flexibility exercises.

My goal is to make exercise fun and also a learning experience.  I am not a "drill sargent" trainer.  I am an active trainer.  I do not expect you to do anything that I won't do.  This even includes calisthenics outside in 100 degree weather---just ask some of my kids I train!   I teach very strict, proper form when doing any type of exercise.  By using proper form and strict movements, you will avoid injuries which in turn leads to long-term exercise commitment.   I also teach you why we do what we do and how it affects your health and fitness.  I believe if I teach you why and how to exercise then it is much easier to develop healthy habits for life.  I also do private and group pilates/yoga stretching and relaxation classes.

I will design and suggest exercise programs to fit your goals and interests.  I am available for private and group training sessions or I can design exercise programs for you to follow on your own.  Healthy Habits Institute's mission is to develop good eating and exercise behaviors that you will continue to follow for a lifetime of health and wellness.  Your health should be a top priority.  Call 765-461-7864 and get started today.
